Treatment of landfill leachate

1. What is landfill leachate?

Garbage leachate refers to the secondary pollutants that occur during the accumulation and disposal process of waste due to the leaching and erosion of rainwater, as well as the soaking of surface water and groundwater through extraction, hydrolysis, and fermentation. The primary source is the water contained in the waste itself, the water generated by the biochemical reaction of the waste, and atmospheric precipitation.

Currently, the main methods of waste treatment in China are landfill and combustion. Therefore, the primary demand for leachate treatment is for waste landfills and incineration plants.


2. The water quality characteristics of landfill leachate

(1) High pollution concentration: COD concentration can reach tens of thousands of B/C, with low values and a wide range of changes;

(2) High ammonia nitrogen content: ammonia nitrogen exceeds 2000mg/L, making it difficult for conventional processes to meet standards;

(3) Nutritional imbalance: C/N imbalance brings certain difficulties to biological treatment.
